Hey MTV: PIMP MY RIDE! Posted by Picasa

Here are some local kids doing a dance at the fiesta. Posted by Picasa

Not quite sure what this thing was, but it was really big and really creepy. Posted by Picasa

This is the town's offering to their saint: an altar of fruit. I think whoever offers him some Immodium AD will stand a better chance of getting into heaven. Posted by Picasa

The man of the hour, San Juan himself, even made an appearance.

On an interesting side note, someone at the fiesta told me that many of the fireworks the people use to celebrate this guy are not actually fireworks at all, but bags full of explosive powder left over from pipe bombs used during the revolution. I can't verify that, but I can tell you that they scare the bejesus out of any gringo within earshot. Nicas, on the other hand, don't even bat an eye when one goes off under their chairs.Posted by Picasa

This is a flag dancer at the street party. Too bad for him that the crowd kept yelling that he couldn't dance. Posted by Picasa

Tonight marked the beginning of the end of the Fiesta de San Juan, a two-week long celebration of the town's patron saint that finally winds down on Sunday...I think. They certainly can't keep up the fireworks/bombs and parades at all hours, can they?

These boys were on their way to the big street party with their cow costume. Posted by Picasa

Here's one of our boats being manned by Capitan Lucas, or LUCA!, LUCA!, LUCA!, as he's usually called on the radio. Posted by Picasa

Check out my new wheels! Seriously, this is how I get around. Bought it for C$280 (USD$20 or something like that) at the mercado in Rivas.

I sat next to this dude on the bus. He was a real pecker. Posted by Picasa

An artsy fartsy shot of el camino, the road, taken by Ashton. Posted by Picasa

We took the economy bus into Rivas today to get some stuff at the mercado. Here's the view from the back of the bus. Posted by Picasa

I just liked this photo. Don't really have much to say about it. Enjoy. Posted by Picasa

See that kid grinning at the camera? He threw a lollipop that almost killed Ashton on our balcony. Look for him as a relief pitcher in 10 years. Posted by Picasa

Halloween in June? Posted by Picasa

The Nicas use any occassion for fireworks and a parade. Here they are marching for the festival of San Juan del Sur, patron saint of the town. Posted by Picasa

Earning my keep and getting my sea legs on the Michell. Check out that latissimus dorsi! Posted by Picasa

Pondering the next move. Looks like hard offshore winds with a rising tide. Posted by Picasa

Capitan Ashton had to practice his boating skills today, and I got to come along for the ride. Here's Gilligan readying the panga. Posted by Picasa

Here's Ashton coming back in from surfing. Normally these are the kind of waves I try to ride, but I made him lower himself so I could get a picture. Posted by Picasa
